Understanding & Overcoming Educational Trauma
2 Day Session with Certification Option*
Educational trauma is not just a thing of the past. Many experience such injury and upheaval in today's various learning environments, whether it be in the classroom, in on-the-job training, etc. If not prevented and circumvented, the ripple effects can influence virtually every aspect of a person's life and will dictate how they walk in the world.
Teaching in any environment is a sacred responsibility and we must always keep this in mind when working with our incredible students, employees and clientele, who gain and demonstrate learnings in a broad spectrum of ways.
This workshop is invaluable for:
- survivors of educational trauma
- school administrators, counsellors, teachers, Indigenous school liaisons and Education Assistants working in both mainstream and schools on reserve
- education Coordinators working on reserve
- those working in training, education and/or work preparedness programs
- managers and supervisors
This training utilizes Indigenous sharing circles, reflective individual and group activities and lecture-style instruction to gain further understanding and insight into the historical and contemporary effects of colonization and other systems of harm on educational practice.
Participants will learn how to more empathetically and effectively work with learners that carry first hand or intergenerational educational trauma in order to built trust with learners and their families/champions to propel learners forward in healing and resiliency so that they can thrive in their educational and personal journeys at any and all levels.
