Indigenous Literacies/Modalities and the Visual Arts

1 or 2 Day Worskhops Available

Offered in-person only.

These workshops are especially beneficial for

  • educators wanting to braid Indigenous teachings with core curriculum over a variety of subjects (in particular, our Indigenous visual arts are all about math!!)
  • organizations that are seeking a great team-building experience

Depending on the needs of the participating group(s), this workshop is offered as either a one or two day experience. Sessions look at multi-modalities and multi-literacies through a pan-Indigenous lens.

Using visual art forms such as

  • drum-making
  • beading
  • weaving
  • storytelling boards
  • painting

participants will learn how to braid cultural teachings and visual arts into their practices. Fun, interactive and tool kit-building, these workshops provide not only 'how to' instruction, but share the beautiful teachings and historical/contemporary contexts around each art form.

Participants will be invited to create 1-3 pieces in each medium, depending on session length selected.
